DUBAI – Travellers heading to the Maldives will soon have another way to reach islands beyond the capital, with Etihad Guest preparing to add Maldivian flights to its mileage redemption options.

The loyalty programme of Etihad Airways signed a new partnership agreement with Maldivian at Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The deal will allow Etihad Guest members to redeem their miles for flights across Maldivian’s domestic and regional network.

The partnership is set to give members greater flexibility when travelling into the Maldives, including those flying from Abu Dhabi and continuing to an outer island after arriving in Malé.

Maldivian flights

Under the new arrangement, Etihad Guest members will be able to use their miles for Maldivian flights serving islands and atolls across the country. This means travellers will have an additional option for using miles beyond their Etihad journey, rather than arranging a separate onward booking using another form of payment.

Mark Potter, Managing Director of Etihad Guest at Etihad Airways, said the partnership would give members another way to use their Etihad Guest Miles, while providing access to destinations across the Maldives.

Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian, said the agreement would combine Etihad’s international reach with Maldivian’s domestic network, which is the largest in the Maldives.

The new mileage partnership builds on an existing interline agreement between the two airlines signed in 2024. That arrangement enables travellers holding a single ticket to connect onwards from Malé to 17 airports across the Maldives.

Island connections

The latest agreement extends that relationship to Etihad Guest members redeeming miles, providing another way to plan onward travel after reaching Malé.

Maldivian serves destinations across the Maldives, allowing travellers to continue towards the country’s islands and atolls after their international arrival. For holidaymakers heading to resorts located away from Malé, the expanded redemption option could form part of a wider itinerary using Etihad Guest Miles.
